She said that she wants to create educational opportunities for children and adults alike. The gallery renovation is also crucial to Young’s plans for educational programming. “So that it’s very intimate when you walk in.” “I want to paint the walls all black and have some artists that we have had in the past come in and outfit a workable stage and curtains,” Young said. She is leading the renovation of a gallery that will be used for performing arts events and programming. In her goals to develop this “artistic epicenter,” Young wants to create more opportunities for artists. “If want a high-level voice, dance or acting education, they have to go into New York City or they have to go into Hartford, or they have to go into New Haven or other far-flung places,” Young said. In her role, Young said she will emphasize educational events for both children and adults with music, dance and theater programming, which is especially important to provide for the community. “We just can get a point of focus and a point of implementation properly deployed to get the best benefits and the best and quickest end results,” Singer said. Gary Singer, MoCA member and founder of the Gary and Susie Singer Arts and Culture Foundation, said that the creation of the position will enable the museum to better serve its community with more focus toward the performing arts. “This committee is phenomenal and dedicated to making this artistic epicenter,” she said. The performing arts committee, meanwhile, will help advise programming, which is integral to MoCA’s future, Mannes said. Young said that she plans to “expose audiences to new experiences and create opportunities for emerging artists” in addition to providing entertainment to the public. “We’ve had a remarkable response to our Music at MoCA performances, and I plan to expand our programming even further to feature new genres and new exciting collaborations,” Young said. ![]()
